Beauty Cosmetic Scanner

Credits and Licences

Last updated 4 September 2026

Beauty Cosmetic Scanner is built on open data contributed by other people. This page names them, states the licence their work is published under, and says exactly what we do with it. Nothing here is optional courtesy — an attribution licence is a licence, and it is only honoured if the credit is actually visible.

Ingredient data

Open Beauty Facts — a free, open, community-built cosmetic database. The database is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0; its individual contents are under the Database Contents Licence. The app contains information from Open Beauty Facts, made available under the ODbL. Source: world.openbeautyfacts.org.

Manufacturers and retailers. The ingredient list as the brand or the shop published it on their own page. Where a list came from a shop rather than from the maker, the app says so on the result screen instead of presenting it as the manufacturer's own.

Product photos

Open Beauty Facts photos. The product photograph shown next to a scan result is, in many cases, a photo taken and uploaded by a member of the Open Beauty Facts community and published under a Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike licence (CC BY-SA). Where the app shows one, it names the source on the same screen as the photo. The authoritative terms are on Open Beauty Facts' terms-of-use page.

Photos published by a brand or shop. Where no community photo exists, the app may display the manufacturer's or retailer's own product image directly from their page. The image is shown by link from where its owner published it — it is never copied into our servers or into the app — and the app names the site it came from.

Your own photos. A photo you take stays on your device. The app may reuse it as the thumbnail for that product, marked with a small camera badge so it is never mistaken for a catalogue photo. It is never uploaded to a photo library, never published, and never shown to anyone else.

Software

The app is written in Swift and built with Apple's SwiftUI, Vision and StoreKit frameworks. It bundles no third-party code libraries, so there are no further software licences to declare.
